EXCELLENCE IN GOVERNANCE AWARDS

EGA Relaunch - The Excellence in Governance Awards (EGAs) are moving and evolving!

As governance continues to expand in complexity, visibility, and strategic importance, the EGAs are being redesigned to better reflect the modern governance landscape and recognize the individuals and organizations shaping its future.

The refreshed program will feature an enhanced nomination process, elevated evaluation framework, expanded promotion of finalists and recipients, and a renewed focus on celebrating governance excellence across sectors.

New Awards Program Timeline

As part of the redesign, the timing of the awards cycle is shifting, with nominations opening in August 2026, and the awards ceremony moving to early June 2027. This change is intended to provide organizations and nominees with additional time to prepare thoughtful, high-quality submissions and fully showcase their governance achievements.

This updated timeline reflects feedback received from participants, sponsors, and the governance community. Moving the nomination period to late summer/early fall provides greater flexibility for many companies following proxy circular season, while a June celebration better aligns with stakeholder availability and avoids competing year-end commitments.

Together, these enhancements will further strengthen the EGAs’ position as a leading benchmark for governance excellence in Canada.

About the Award

The EGAs recognize the important contribution that organizations, their Boards and Governance Professionals make in terms of best practices, that build and sustain stakeholder value in Canada.

The submission methodology and criteria has been updated to allow for a more inclusive and open process, so as to encourage more organizations to participate. GPC invites all Canadian organizations from all sectors to take this opportunity to gain recognition for their innovative governance practices and to be celebrated for their accomplishments.

The award categories reflect the current governance environment and the challenges faced by organizations in ensuring they remain sustainable and innovative in a rapidly evolving landscape. The awards also focus on the Board’s and the Governance Professional’s roles in adding value to their organization.
