Mary-Carmen Vera

With over 24 years of experience in Canada’s natural resources sector, Mary-Carmen Vera has built a distinguished career focused on sustainable development, innovation, and community engagement, with a strong emphasis on governance. She began her journey as General Manager of Wemindji Exploration, a 100% Indigenous-owned company dedicated to mineral exploration and establishing strategic partnerships with regional stakeholders.

Mary-Carmen’s commitment to fostering governance frameworks that promote meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities began in the early 2000s. Her pioneering work in governance and community collaboration has played a key role in laying the foundation for long-term growth and partnership in the natural resources sector.

A seasoned professional in sustainable development, Mary-Carmen is known for her analytical expertise and her ability to identify growth opportunities that drive both innovation and progress. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for several organizations, including PDAC (Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada), CEMI (Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation), Element29, and the Cree Mineral Exploration Board (CMEB). She is also an active member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, the Canadian Institute of Mining, and the Governance Professionals of Canada.

Mary-Carmen is passionate about integrating principles that foster sustainable, inclusive, and innovative solutions supporting both business and community development. She resides in Montreal, Quebec, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, and a Certificate in Sustainable Leadership.
