Shona McGlashan (she/they) is the principal of McGlashan Consulting Inc., where she works at the intersection of governance, equity, and workplace wellbeing, helping organizations build boards and cultures that actually work for people.

With over 25 years of experience on both sides of the Atlantic, Shona has led governance, public affairs, diversity and inclusion, and mental health functions at some of Canada's most recognizable organizations. Her most recent executive roles were VP Governance & Corporate Secretary at Vancity Credit Union (where she also led the organization's mental health strategy) and Chief Governance Officer at Mountain Equipment Co-op. She began her career advising the Speaker, MPs, and parliamentary committees in the UK House of Commons.

Shona is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute and the recipient of Governance Professionals of Canada's 2023 Governance Professional of the Year award. She's a sought-after speaker, skilled facilitator, and a thought leader in values-based governance.

Her consulting practice spans three areas:

  • Governance: governance advisory and education, board assessments, inclusive governance, chair and director coaching
  • EDI in leadership: strategy and education for boards and executive teams
  • Workplace mental health & wellbeing: strategy advisory and workshops for leaders and individual contributors

Shona serves as board chair at Pain BC and vice-chair and Governance Committee chair at Bard on the Beach. She's a parent of teenagers, voracious reader, Gaelic learner, and student of mindfulness.
