In this session, we will explore all aspects of an efficient records management program for the corporate secretary's department. Starting with the reasons a robust records management program is an essential requirement; moving on to the legal requirements for records creation and retention; generally accepted standards and best practices in records management; risk management considerations; litigation and investigation holds; access controls and restrictions and managing rights of access for directors, officers, auditors and others; solicitor-client privilege; the lifecycle for records; tracking, storing, retrieving and destroying records; integrating paper and paperless techniques into a seamless process; business continuity and disaster recovery considerations; and creating and managing a bottom-up system that allows each member of the corporate secretary's staff to manage the records for their area of expertise and responsibility while providing access for all team members. This session is a three-hour-long event.
